Why is my screensaver not working windows 7
I apologise. I have Windows 7 Ultimate and it was a clean install, rather than an upgrade from a previous version. Yes the screen saver used to work but to be honest, I can't remember when it stopped. I know that it was working last year and noticed that at some point this year it had stopped working. In that time, I have upgraded my mouse and graphics card but the problem persisted before the graphics card change I went from a Radeon to Geforce card so uninstalled the old drivers and installed the completely new set.
I have also uninstalled both my Logitech mouse and keyboard software and also uninstalled the HID and other USB devices in Device Manager but none of them have rectified the problem.
I tried all your methods, starting at the top and unfortunately none of them appear to have resolved this issue, my screen saver still will not work. I would be more than grateful to hear of any other suggestion you may have please.
To get the screen saver and power options to work while a wireless mouse or keyboard is plugged in, use the following steps:. Click on the link "Review optional updates" and then from these optional updates, select "Microsoft HID non-user input data filter ". Install the update. Once done, the screen saver and power options will function normally even while a wireless mouse is connected.
If it does not help, then check the issue in new user account. If issue does not persist in new user account, then copy all the data from old user account to new one.
Thank you both for taking the time to respond; I appreciate your help. The problem existed before I changed the graphics card. I am using the latest graphics card drivers and I even tried using older ones too in case it was an issue My motherboard definitely has the latest drivers installed. I even updated the BIOS on the motherboard in case that was the issues but it wasn't. Windows is updated to the fullest extent.
There are no further updates to apply at all, whether they are important updates, suggested ones, alternate ones or optional updates. The Microsoft HID non-user input data filter was never in the list of updates. I found a thread about a month ago regarding that exact issue and found and installed via Pkgmgr. This has not resolved the issue either. I am beginning to think that only a reinstall of windows will fix this issue and I am not prepared to do that.

You've all been so helpful to me and we still haven't resolved this problem, I just do not know what to do to rectify it short of a full reinstall of Windows, which as I said I am not willing to do for many reasons mainly to do with saved work, accounts and so on.

It does work when I use the 'preview' function though. I am using the inbuilt standard screensavers. No errors pop up, the screen saver just does not actuivate when the alloted time has passed.
I am running Windows 7 x It's updated to the fullest extent via Windows Update. I recently replaced my graphics with a new GTX Ti and I am using the latest drivers but the problems existed before the upgrade. Improve this answer. That's what I was thinking, but I'm not running anything media-related.. If this occurs again, try to find some connection to what you did before. Hirvox Hirvox 3 3 silver badges 8 8 bronze badges.
A wired, optical Intellimouse Explorer with a mousepad, both of which I've been using forever and had no screensaver problems in Vista.. I guess it can't hurt to give it a try. Being diligent, I wrote up a nice little message to the Softies for them to fix it. My answer: Based on an XP system, you should be getting the login screen in both cases. In my Advanced power settings, "Require a password on wakeup" is set.. I'm going to try disabling the automatic display-off and see if that works around it. I had this happen with Windows XP for quite a while, and the solution turned out to be quite bizarre: The screen saver does not start after you install a wireless pointing device The solution in my case was to download a free updated version of PowerDVD, which solved the problem. So you might look for similar incompatibilities in your case.
Hmm, interesting info, but I'm not sure I have anything like that. On the other hand, it used to usually work and now seems to never be working, so I must've installed something recently that's blocking it..

There are many other devices that may also cause a conflict; as such, try unplugging all USB devices to your computer except for the keyboard and mouse, and then test your screensaver again. You should be able to isolate the device causing the problem by plugging in each device one at a time, then test the screen saver again.

Clean the Mouse Optical Lens On many computers, the mouse can wake up a computer from sleep and also the screen saver. To do so: Turn the mouse over and look at the optical lens for any lint or hairs around the eye. Blow the lens with your breath, compressed air, or use tweezers to extract any hair or lint.
Use a lint remover to go over the mouse pad if the mouse pad made from fabric , then use tape to get the rest of the lint and hair off. If the mouse pad is a smooth surface and not made from fabric, use a damp cloth to clean the surface.
To reset your Windows theme on Windows 7 for example , do the following: Right click over an empty area on the desktop and select "Personalization" from the dialogue menu. Look for the "Aero Themes" heading and select the "Windows 7" theme.
It should be the very first one in the list. The theme will change automatically as soon as you click it. Now, proceed to the next step.
Reset Screensaver Settings As I mentioned above, the screensaver settings are reset when the Windows theme is changed; as such, you will now need to adjust your screensaver settings. To do so: Click Start, type in "screensaver" no quotes in the search box; wait a few seconds and then click the Change Screensaver link when it is presented.
The "Change Screen Saver Settings" window will appear. Set the screensaver to "Wait 1 minute" and also check mark "On resume, display logon screen" if the option is available. In my research, I've read that placing a check mark on the "On resume, display logon screen" option also helps to fix a screensaver that doesn't start automatically. Click the Apply button. Then, click the date and time in the Windows tray bar and note the clock.
Wait approximately 1. Do not touch your mouse or keyboard during this time or this will reset the timer. If it worked, you can adjust your screensaver to 10 or 15 minutes of inactivity. If that didn't work, proceed to the next step.
